MMU hosts free Best Practice Workshop

SFEDI AND THE INSTITUTE OF ENTERPRISE AND ENTREPRENEURS (IOEE) PROMOTE NATIONAL ENTERPRISE STANDARDS

MMU HOSTS FREE BEST PRACTICE WORKSHOP

FURTHER EVENTS TAKING PLACE AT UK UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH CENTRES

Working in collaboration with Enterprise Educators UK, SFEDI and the IOEE have organised a nationwide programme of events to explore and promote best practice in the application of National Enterprise Standards.

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) opened its doors to figures from the world of enterprise support, enterprise and entrepreneurial education last week. The workshop was the first of a series taking place at UK universities and research centres in coming weeks. The event was designed to showcase exemplars of best practice and demonstrate its positive impact on the small and micro business community, as well as graduates, college leavers and the future health of the UK’s economy.

Ruth Lowbridge MBE, Executive Chair of SFEDI Group, led the event with a presentation on National Enterprise Standards, considering both the Organisational Standards that define IOEE Centres of Excellence and Academies, and Individual Standards, which be applied within enterprise, business and enterprise support, and enterprise and entrepreneurial education.

Carolyn Branston is Senior Lecturer & Faculty Lead at Hollings IOEE Academy at Manchester Metropolitan University, home to Events, Tourism & Hospitality Management education.

MMU is also one of the UK’s first universities to have its own IOEE Centre of Excellence. As such, it was keen to demonstrate excellence in delivering enterprise education opportunities for students both as part of the curriculum and as part of extracurricular activities. At the event, Carolyn shared a case study to demonstrate the application of National Enterprise Standards in Higher Education. She said:

“The event was very engaging and successfully introduced a range of National Enterprise Standards open not only to Higher Education and student enterprise, but also the wider enterprise community. I found it useful on a number of levels. Firstly, I was able to become conversant with the current new standards for enterprise education in HEIs, which is essential for us to remain relevant for industry and for students. Secondly, I was inspired by the examples of diverse implementation across the wide range of business/education sectors in which we operate. And thirdly, I really enjoyed meeting new colleagues and discussing with them the challenges and solutions for moving forward the enterprise message and practice of formalised National Enterprise Standards. I see this series of good-practice events as essential to ensuring all parts of the UK have a voice and can share their experiences.”

Events will be taking place at universities and research centres everywhere from Norwich to Newcastle, Leeds to London, Cirencester to Worcester. Places are free but limited so get yours booked today!
